Early Life & Journey to Orthodoxy

Fr. Steven was born into a Roman Catholic family in south Louisiana, where he was reared in his family's faith and received his education in the Roman Catholic schools, including four years in a college seminary operated by Benedictine monks. Reading the Holy Fathers and studying the history of the Church in seminary convinced him that the Orthodox Church is the real Church, and he converted to Orthodoxy in his mid-20s.
The late Bishop Gregory (Grabbe) of the Russian Church Abroad ordained Fr. Steven to the priesthood in 1985.
Fr. Steven joined the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece (GOC) and served the Greek Orthodox community at St. Spyridon Church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, from 2001-2014.
Fr. Steven helped establish the St. Irene parish (our sister parish), In Washington MI, beginning in 2014. He has since cultivated the growth of the mission from humble origins, serving the divine services in many places ranging from parishioners homes, college campuses, and rented spaces in office buildings. In 2021, St. Irene answered the many prayers of the parish, by bestowing the beautiful church at 3000 28 Mile Rd into his care. See our sister parish's website here: https://www.saint-irene.com/
In 2021, with the blessing of Metropolitan Demetrius, Fr. Steven helped establish the mission parish of St. Ieronymos in Hillsdale, MI. Located in the heart of downtown Hillsdale, at 77 Broad Street. Fr. Steven splits his time between both parishes, St. Ieronymos and St. Irene. On weekends when he is not present, the parishioners gather faithfully for Saturday night Vigil services and Hours and Typica on Sunday mornings.
